Stops by Request

To better serve our community while improving service efficiency, STARS has designated select locations throughout our service area as Stops by Request. These locations remain fully accessible to riders, but buses only stop when a pickup or drop-off has been requested.

This approach helps reduce unnecessary stops during periods of lower demand while ensuring riders can still access important destinations.

How Stops by Request Work
Requesting a Pickup

If you are boarding at a designated Stop by Request location:

-Call the STARS Dispatch Office at (989) 907-4000 at least 30 minutes before your planned trip.
-Let the dispatcher know your pickup location, desired pickup time, and destination.
-The bus will stop at your requested location during its scheduled route.

Requesting a Drop-Off

If you are already riding the bus and wish to exit at a designated Stop by Request location:

-Pull the yellow stop request cord before reaching your stop.
-Let the driver know which Stop by Request location you need.
-The driver will stop at the requested location.

Fare Information

There is no additional cost to use a Stop by Request location. Standard STARS fares and policies apply.
